38th & Chicago

Nearly two weeks after George Floyd died in police custody, I visited the spot in South Minneapolis where he died. It had become a bit of a shrine to him and the modern civil rights movement.

Also, watch the video attached to the article for the on-air story.

End Of Watch

Three times over a six-month stretch, officers of the law in Wisconsin were killed in the line of duty.

In each case, the same person served as officer-in-chief, organizing an elaborate funeral service, meant to serve as a final good-bye to the deceased - for family, friends and fellow officers.

This may be the most elaborate article I’ve ever written during my time at WEAU.

Getting a “Lyft”

“Well, it turns out, my passenger goes ‘She doesn’t have any pants on.’”

When you have an interview subject dropping these lines on you, you can’t resist telling his story.

Is Speech Free?

This gave us the chance to ask “Is speech free?”

Donald Powis found this out the hard way, when the ice under his feet broke and he plunged into water.

Powis survived and had a chance to thank one of the people who saved his life.

The Plant Closing

In 2017, our station did a multi-part series on the closing of Eau Claire’s Uniroyal Tire factory. This was a major hit to the local economy in the mid-1990s.

My assignment was to talk with former plant workers to describe how they transitioned and transformed. It was a personal story, as my father and grandfather put many years in at the facility.
