The Interviewer

The Voters Voice

One room. Three cameras. Five voters. Plenty of questions.

I organized a voter forum ahead of the 2016 presidential election. We narrowed the panel down to two people voting for Hillary Clinton, two people voting for Donald Trump, and one undecided voter.

It was fun putting this together and have a free-form discussion on the election. Yes, I had prepared questions. However, it was the panelists who really gave me the opportunity to open things up.

The video you see here is Part 1 of our hour-long discussion.

School Safety Town Hall

In the wake of deadly violence in our schools, we decided to hold a town hall on school safety in the Chippewa Valley.

I had the honor of assembling and moderating an all-encompassing panel with lawmakers, a deputy police chief, district superintendent, gun store owner, mental health expert, and a powerful student representative. We also had a live audience to ask questions to our panel.

This is an edited version of the 60-minute prime-time discussion we conducted in May of 2018.

Election Night

There is a bit of fun in talking politics, especially on an election night. So, sitting down with our station’s political analyst about what the vote totals are showing is always a blast.

This was in 2018, on the night of Wisconsin’s spring election. Even though it was April, we started seeing how this midterm year would unfold for the swing state.

Here Comes Santa Claus

The live interviews aren’t always conducted on serious topics. Moving into the holidays, it was time to promote a few area parades.

Naturally, I had to clear my schedule when the top international gift-giver stopped by for a pre-Christmas visit to the station.

Fun With Paint

Who says I have no artistic talent?

During a brief fill-in stint anchoring our morning show, we had a guest in to talk about creative outdoor activities you can do with your kids during the summer.

Someone thought it was a good idea to let me paint at 6:45 in the morning.

Talking Is Teaching

I’ve anchored every newscast at WEAU, including our 4 p.m. show. This program includes a 4-minute interview segment - not an easy task to master.

This was on one day I filled in as anchor, talking about a United Way program looking to shrink the “word gap” with young children.

The Master Singers

Being a native of Eau Claire, I’ve known that the Master Singers has always been one of the premier choral group in the Chippewa Valley.

Gary Schwartzhoff is highly-respected in the musical community and it was fun to have him come on in and preview an upcoming concert.
